[I am a coffee nut! I love all coffee — yes even instant (though I do give the snobbish this is not real coffee look sometimes). I don’t claim to a coffee taster and these are my notes and preparations tricks for the various coffees]

Baba Budangiri — Toffee Coffee Roasters

  • Roast : Medium

I discovered this coffee through the Cred Shop and decided to give it a shot. I typically always buy whole beans and grind them appropriately just before making my cup.

I made the coffee 3 ways over the course of the day to discover the different flavours and what I liked best. Here are my notes:

French Press

I usually take a 1:17 (gm/ml) coffee — water ratio for the French Press. The coffee had an earthy taste with a hint of spice and smoky after taste. I liked the fact that it didn’t feel acidic and was smooth to drink without the bitterness at the end.

Espresso

crema after a single shot pull

I pulled a single shot espresso with my machine and the crema was thick and creamy. The espresso shot was smooth and not at all bitter. The earthiness added a nice robust flavour without being too intense.

Pour over — V60

Hario V60

For the pour over, I generally prefer the V60 or chemex. With this coffee, I used the V60 with a ratio of 1:20. The taste profile was very similar to that from the French Press and if anything it was slightly mellowed (I guess it has more to do with the ratio) I did get a hint of the nuttiness that the description on the coffee talks about.

Overall I would give the coffee a solid 3 stars ★★★ and my preferred preparation would be a French Press (though I wouldn't mind an espresso now and then ☺)
